If you like to read fantasy then you should go check out the Baen Free Library. Many of the authors are very famous including one of my favorites Mercedes Lackey.
Oxford also had all of their textbooks, teacher resources, and linguistics books on sale at 20% off. I of course took advantage of this opportunity to abuse my credit card. I picked up two books; Doing Task Based Teaching by Dave Willis & Jane Willis as well as Teaching English as an International Language by Sandra Lee McKay.
I will be reading the Task Based Teaching book immediately after final exams are completed and graded. In spring semester I will be doing some research with my students use a Task and looking at the effectiveness of the task. Clearly some more theoretical background information will help to inform the research.
I'm definitely looking forward to reading both of these books and applying some of what I learned at the conference to my classes.
I just got back from Cambridge Day which I talked about in the previous entry. It was really informative and I managed to see a few people I haven't seen in a long time. You may recall in a previous entry that I talked about how I love to buy books. Well I did it again. I picked up two more books on teaching theory, but this time it was a little expensive, even with the 20% discount.
The books I bought are:
From Corpus to Classroom: Language Use and Language Teaching
and
World Englishes: Implications for International Communication and English Language Teaching
I'm sure that these books will be very informative and help me to be a better teacher. What books have you bought recently to help you be better at something; your major, relationships or anything?
Today I went downtown to do some shopping for my wifes
birthday. Because I am a book gigolo, I stopped in at all three of the
major book retailers. Doing this is usually does major damage to my
credit card but not today. At Kyobo bookstore (광화문점) There is a good
selection of linguistics and teaching oriented material on sale for
3,000 to 5,000 won each. There were a couple of books that I already
own and paid 30,000+ won for. Needless to say I picked up 5 books for myself and one for a friend whom I called to inform about the sale.
