A couple of days after we moved into the new house I went to Costco and picked up the cuisinart dgb-600. It’s an expensive coffee maker, but it makes a pretty good cup of coffee - cheaper in Korea than on prices advertised online for the States or Canada. I also like the built in grinder, timer, and carafe. The carafe works great. It keeps the coffee hot and fresh for hours. I’ve made coffee and then had a cup six hours later and it was still hot and fresh. Mmmm… tasty.
I'm enjoying a cup of starbucks coffee brewed in this coffee maker as I type this entry. Do you want a cup?
Twinkie Underwear is clearly Konglish or some sort of bad understanding of English by the advertising company. A Twinkie is another way to refer to a homosexual man (urban dictionary - go to #6). Also placing the ad right next to men's room makes it even funnier. I definitely will not be buying Twinkie Underwear.
Last night ten of the teachers from Hanyang went to a middle eastern restaurant in Itaewon called Petra. I've been there a few times and the food is always good and the Turkish Coffee exquisite This time was no exception.
Below you can see several pictures of the food we ate. All ten teachers ordered something and then we shared the food. We also ordered a couple of appetizers including hummous, a cheese spread and flat bread. it was really really great.
It's really easy to get to Petra. Take subway line 6 to 족사평 station and once there take the pedestrian overpass towards Itaewon. On the overpass you can see the sign for Petra. I took a picture so you can easily find this restaurant and I took a picture of the sunset as well facing the other direction. Hope you enjoy it and go try their food some time. The prices are reasonable, the service good and the food outstanding.
In the final assignment about half of our class told me that they would continue blogging during the summer. it's already been one week and not one update - so sad.
In other news I quit coffee for five days and suffered brutal headaches, but am now back to drinking it. I can't stop. Coffee is the perfect beverage: good flavor and zero calories.
Summer is here so it's time for a hair cut. As you can see I did a rather extreme job of the hair cut. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacation. Keep in touch.
In other news I've quit drinking coffee and the headaches from withdrawal are excruciating. Why do I do this you ask? Because I don't like having anything control me whether it is another person or a drug like coffee. Three days of headaches and I'll be free. Free until I have that first cup of coffee at the beginning of next semester.
While I was there I also picked up a book about the success of Starbucks. I love coffee and am interested in the success of Starbucks so during the summer vacation I'll head down to my local starbucks and read this book. Great fun.
I also picked up all the Matrix movies and special features as a 10 dvd box set and will probably watch one each night for the next four nights.
The weather today is perfect. Heavy rains. This is my favorite kind of weather. When it rains like this, I like to sit home alone and drink lots of coffee while reading books and watching DVDs. After that I usually take a nap - rainy days are so relaxing.
It's especially good to sit next to an open window while reading your book. The sound of the rain falling is so relaxing that I cannot help but feel contented with a perfect day. Thank you for the rain, especially since today is a day off and I can stay home all day.
I hope everyone enjoys their rainy day as much as I will.
The treadmill is the bane of my existence. Every day I go to the gym and run 7-10 kilometres. This takes me about 40-45 minutes. But the thing is I really hate exercise. I hate it because it is a waste of time (I would rather be drinking coffee or reading a book). I hate it because it makes me sweat. I hate it because it's boring. I just hate exercise.
However it's useful for me. In 5 months I lost 12 kilograms by using the running machine. No diet, just running. 7-10 kilometres a day. Diets don't work, because as soon as you stop dieting (and everyone does) you gain weight back.
Anyhow treadmills are evil and I have to go face my evil nemesis about 30 minutes from now.
Vending machine coffee is disgusting. Besides have you seen how dirty the insides of those machines are. I remember reading a newspaper article in the Korea Herald about seven years about about mold and cockroaches and rats found inside some of the machines inside of subway stations.
What I'm talking about is coffee from your neighboorhood coffeeshop such as Starbucks, The Coffee bean or my favorite Caribou Coffee (wikipedia article).
Caribou coffee is new to Korea having only arrived this year. Previously I spent my coffee money and time at Starbucks - walking distance from my home or the one out the front gate of the university.
I like Caribou now, because the coffee is about the same flavor and stregnth as Starbucks and the prices are comparible as is the decor - slightly over priced ;-)
What makes Caribou a winner is the free broadband wireless internet at all locations. I can take my laptop with me and do web site maintenance, check my email, check my bloglines account or just waste time. Finally the Caribou branch closest to me is only a 3 minute walk from my house which is 1 minute closer than Starbucks.
