Your final exam is today. You need to use MS word to compose your essay: HWP is not acceptable. Your essay should be in 12pt Times New Roman font and 1.5 spacing. Be sure to include your name (in Korean) and student number in the header. This essay should be 450-550 words in length. If you go over or under you will be severely penalized. It is important to stay within the word count. This exam will be available from 9am to 10:20am. Once you finish your exam, you should email it to me. I will not accept exams with a time stamp past 10:25 - that means you will recieve a zero if it arrives at 10:26.
You will be graded on the content of your essay. Grammar does not count, but spelling does - be sure to use the spellcheck feature of MSword.
- In what ways can the internet be used to enhance the language classroom learning experience? When using web sites with students what features should you look for? Be sure to include examples and be specific. When you give a link type it like this - name and then link in brackets:
blah blah blah chosun (http://chosun.com) blah blah blah....
When you name your file you should name your file name-student#-internet-english.doc so if your name is 김철수 and your student# is 20031234567 your file name would be 김철수-20031234567-internet-english.doc
Good luck.
This looks like a really great activity to use with students. If our class wasn't already over I would be doing this with you next week on Wednesday.
Earlier in the semester I asked you to post some teacher blogs that you found on the internet. I tried to find where that is on my blog, but I can't. Anyhow since this is the end of the semester I thought I would link to a few blogs that I enjoy reading. I'm sure that if you read these blogs and follow links to other blogs you will find something interesting for you to add to your RSS reader. If you find a blog I don't list that looks really great, please let me know.

For todays class you will spend your time reading the following pages, following links on those pages and then discussing your thoughts with one another before finally posting an entry on your blog.
As you read the links below critically consider each authors thoughts on teaching, technology and the internet. Consider what you read in relation to what we have looked at this semester and your own thoughts on the use of Internet in the EFL classroom. What do you agree with? what do you disagree with? Why?
After you have thought about these questions discuss your ideas with your classmates in small groups. It is important for you to discuss with your classmates before going on to the writing task. Discussion will help you to organize your thoughts, consider different ideas, and synthesize all the new information.
- Types of Resources for Language Teaching
- Technology = Engaged Learners
- Effective Ways to Use the Internet: How do YOU Learn?
- Effective Ways to Use the Internet: Playing Games and Having Fun
After discussion you should then write a post on your blog detailing your thoughts about this. You may also want to leave comments for the authors of the links above (not necessary). I would like you to leave a comment on this entry with a link to your post. You are also encouraged to comment on each others posts.
The first site that we looked at today is Graphita. Graphita is a flash based site that allows you to add fun cartoons, text and other silly things to pictures you upload. The site allows you to save to your hard drive or share on a number of web 2.0 sites such as flickr and facebook.
Your second task is to read this blog entry by Teacher Dude titled blogs as course book supplements. As you read folow the links and consider carefully what he is suggesting and then with a small group discuss the following questions:
- consider this quote The basic idea is that either I, or preferably the students, post links to anything we see on the internet that is connected with the subject matter in the unit we're doing. How effective do you think this will be?
- Which do you think will be more effective and why; links provided by the teacher or links provided by students?
- Can you foresee any problems that might be encountered using this idea? if so, how would you deal with them?
- What further suggestions can you make for this type of activity?
Today's lesson plan illustrates the use of a web site with media and a lesson plan suggestion from a different site. We are going to look at People of the Web which has several news articles accopanied by video news. The lesson comes from a blog titled Teacher Dude's Bar and Grill.
The specific people of the web article we are looking at is Teen Millionaire.
In today's class we will look at ning and specifically EFLclassroom which was made with ning. Also be sure to check out the post on blogger tag.
Our guest speaker will be lecturing this coming Friday on The Compleat Lexical Tutor. This web site is a little difficult to see the powerful tool that it is, but with a good explanation it will be clear. Bill Snyder will show you the power of this site - I'm sure you will benefit greatly from his lecture.
